Within Earshot of Candlebox

Nineties Seattle rock-and-rollers Candlebox stormed into the Houston House of Blues last night in support of a new CD dubbed ‘Into The Sun’. The show was the second time I’d seen Candlebox, with the first being a not-so-great experience at a much smaller venue south of town. The band drew a good crowd for a Monday night and did not disappoint playing a good mix of new tunes and classics, including an interesting detour during ‘Arrow’ off their first release. The band broke down into a few classic rock gems including Pink Floyd’s ‘Another Brick In The Wall’, Led Zeppelin’s ‘Immigrant Song’ and Ozzy’s ‘Crazy Train’. Pics and gear review after the jump!

Candlebox axe master Peter Klett had a pretty expansive board, however due to the vantage it was difficult to make out the contents beyond the TU-2, Ernie Ball volume pedal and V-Wah. Klett pumped a myriad of Les Pauls back though a pair of heads – one Marshall and one Great Dane. His rig also sported mic’d Marshall and Mesa cabs as well as a third unmarked cab. On the other side of the stage, Sean Hennesey played a host of different guitars including a Gibson SG and an Epiphone V, a Les Paul and a Jazzmaster/Jaguar style axe. He ran that back through what also appeared to be a Great Dane head and a large combo amp that could not be identified from my position.

Show openers Earshot got the crowd loose with a series of tunes from their trio of CDs, including new stuff off their ‘The Silver Lining’ CD. The twin guitar attack pumped Schecter and Gibson guitars back through Diamond Amplifiers heads and cabs.
