Dubbed the BA70, the new combo amp sports 50 watts, long tail phase inverter, 15″ alnico Jensen speaker, and exact replica print on canvas of the original Gibson “poodle skin” covering on the lower half. Designed to give players that “top boost” tone, the BA70 works well with guitar and blues harmonica. At its core, the amp is a reproduction of the classic Gibson GA70 Country Western amplifiers of the 1950s. Power options include 120v or 220v upon request when purchased. The amp comes with a Studio Slips clam shell gig bag. The BA70 is priced at $2,999.

Rob at Buffalo Amps e-mailed this week to let us know that he is back in business. He shut down Dallas-based Buffalo at the end of 2009 to concentrate on other things, but now is back and ready for relaunch. Buffalo was known for its vintage Gibson-style amps and repair work to Gibson-brand amplifiers. He told us this time out he is favoring the Gibson GA70 Country Western, having improved the power supply and phase inverter from the 57/58 circuit so that it is louder and has better low end tightness while still retaining that creamy overdriven tone of the original circuit. Sounds intriguing! The new Buffalo Amps website isn’t up and running just yet, but you can keep track of the company via its official facebook page <a href="http://facebook.com/Buffaloamplifiers"here.

Dallas-based boutique amp builder Buffalo Amps will be exiting the business – no longer making or repairing amplifiers going forward. Rob told his friends on Facebook this week that the pressures of running the business are taking their toll and he wants to step back and concentrate on family. Rob adds that any current open orders/repairs/parts with Buffalo will be taken care of as soon as possible. Buffalo was known for its vintage Gibson-style amps… including the Country Bison pictured left… and repair work to Gibson-brand amplifiers. Good luck Rob!
