Fuzzhugger raises its Chalice

February 24, 2010
Industry News>

Last week, Tom Dalton – the fuzz master of Fuzzhugger(fx) – tipped his plan to introduce a new fuzz pedal based on the his popular AB-Synth fuzz tones with no oscillation and more gain control. A few days later and behold the ‘pinnacle of FuzzHugger(fx) fuzz’ – the Chalice. As promised, this non-oscillating stomp delivers all of the AB-Synth fuzz tones and more. The AB-Synth itself evolved from the company’s 1134 fuzz. According to Tom, the Chalice fuzz captures all of the 1134 fuzz tones as well as all of the AB-Synth fuzz tones. The Chalice sports four knob controls – Level, Volt, Fuzz and Gain. Info on availability and pricing when we have it. Stay tuned!

Random pedal musings…

Here were a couple of tidbits that drifted my way recently that I did have time to follow up on, but I still want to pass them along. First, MI Audio is planning a limited edition distortion pedal ‘for a good cause’. Judging by the red cross on the enclosures, any guesses? Second, Xotic is releasing limited edition paint jobs for some their pedal line in 2010. Check with your local dealers soon for ‘glitter’ paint versions of the RC Booster (silver – 650 pcs), AC Booster (gold – 500 pcs) and BB Pre-Amp (orange – 650 pcs) stomps. Lastly, Tom at Fuzzhugger is working up a new fuzz based on the AB-Synth fuzz tones with no oscillation and more gain control. Interest piqued! Stay tuned…

Fuzzhugger redresses the Groundswell

January 26, 2010
Industry News>

A lesser known Fuzzhugger offering, the Groundswell overdrive was originally built by builder Tom Dalton for Tom Dalton… with the goal of creating an overdrive with a natural feel and sound without artificial clipping. After getting requests to build more, he is making it available again in small quantities and a new enclosure. According to Tom, it is a full overdrive with a natural response to picking intensity. The Groundswell is a transistor overdrive, so it doesn’t have that artificial over-clipped sound. The pedal features dual gain stages and a voltage reducer that alters total amount of gain, as well as feel and response to pick attack. The Groundswell is $99.

Fuzzhugger touts limited Phantom Octave

Industry News>

phantomoctaveJoining the recently announced Velcroar limited edition pedal over at Fuzzhugger is the Phantom Octave stomp. Equal parts mysterious and ghastly, the Phantom Octave is a shape-shifting octave fuzz monster. The Phantom Octave is interactive with your pickup selection and your guitar’s tone control. With the flip of your pickup selector and your picking technique, you can find octave downs, octave up, ring mod tones, and even some simple chords. Set the intensity of the effect by using your guitar’s tone control as a blend. Roll it back for a chord-friendly fuzz. Different pickups generate different sounds. Cool, right? Check out the P.O. in action after the jump!

Industry News>

whitespiderDiscontinued by Devi Ever earlier this year, FuzzHugger(fx) has licensed the White Spider dual fuzz circuit, added all new controls and now is bringing it back on the market. The White Spider features two radically different fuzz modes, and despite being high gain, the pedal is surprisingly low noise. With a main Fuzz control, an additional foot-switchable Gain control, and a clean Boost control, you can dial in the exact type of fuzz, texture, and response you want. The pedal features dual footswitch/mode, Gain, Boost, Fuzz and Level knob controls as well as true bypass switching. The White Spider is available now for $145.

Fuzzhugger goes super-limited with the Velcroar

December 17, 2009
Industry News>

velcroarTom over at Fuzzhugger is producing a super-limited (and by that we mean maybe a half-dozen) mega-textured, boxy fuzz that sticks to your notes called the Velcroar. With hints of octave that add to a slight layered/chorused fuzz effect, the stomp is not only super-scarce… at $69, it’s super cheap! If you want one, you’d do good to give Tom a holler, but it may already be too late! However, the Velcroar is one of two unique, limited-availability pedals that Fuzzhugger has in the works. As to the other… we’ll have to wait a bit for that. But you won’t have to wait long to hear the Velcroar in action, because there is a spankin’ new video demo after the jump!

Devi divides the spoils

dcdreammanglerDevi Ever has sent some of her pedal designs to new homes. Dwarfcraft Devices now is building the Spectacular Aenimas, Dream Mangler, Bit Mangler and Synth Mangler while Fuzzhugger FX will take on the Destructo Noctavia. Devi said the decision to discontinue building the pedals was due to stress, time and money. Each of the discontinued pedals took a significant amount of time to build and that fact began to outweigh the revenue they generated in the current economy. The only pedal that fits in this category that Devi will continue to build is the soon to be re-released Truly Beautiful Disaster, which will initially only be available through Analogue Haven.

FuzzHugger(fx) has taken up the mantle of leader of the pack after a licensing agreement with Mellowtone has prompted the resurrection of the Wolf Computer fuzz. Discontinued by Mellowtone earlier this year, FuzzHugger(fx) licensed the stomp design, and has worked closely with Mellowtone on everything from graphics, to layout, to a professionally printed circuit board, to make the user-favorite pedal available again! The pedal is a snarly, crunchy triple silicon fuzz that delivers a huge range of tones: classic fuzz, overdrives, synthy textures, self-arpeggiation, glitching, and more! The new Wolf Computer is available now and priced at $135.00.

Fuzzhugger dials up a Devi Dark Boost

FuzzHugger(fx) has struck a deal with pedal builder Devi Ever to offer the Devi-designed Dark Boost boost and overdrive. The pedal offers boosting, bass boosts, and surprisingly fat, full, and creamy drives. According to the company, it fattens and darkens thin, bright guitars and amps unbelievably well, adding dimension and bass to any setup (guitar or bass). The new Dark Boost adds a third knob to the classic design, giving users control over the pedal’s voltage, for more textures and responses. Controls include a Ctrl knob that changes boost intensity and texture. The Volt knob lowers voltage applied to the circuit for control over texture and response. The Vol knob controls the level. The pedal retails for $99.

FuzzHugger(fx) now is shipping version two of their AB-Synth fuzz pedal, which reassigns the oscillation toggle to a second footswitch for hands-free operation and quick switching between the pedal’s modes. The AB-Synth is a harmonic-blasting, light-sabery, layered synth fuzz with tone-shaping gain and texture knobs that take you from searing to splattery. The second footswitch engages a second mode with wild oscillation, blips, self-arpeggiation, more synth tones, and fat octave down. The pedal offers everything from open, to compressed and focused, to sizzling in the standard mode, to beyond-words-crazy in oscillation mode. The new Ab-Synth is $129.

FuzzHugger(fx) is ready to roll out its AB-Synth pedal – a harmonic-blasting, liquidy, light-sabery, layered synth fuzz with tone-shaping gain and texture knobs that take you from searing to splattery. According to the company, the design began by cascading two fuzz sections from FuzzHugger’s first fuzz, the Algal Bloom, for densely packed fuzz with twice the gain. There are tons of tonal possibilities–from open distortion, to compressed and focused, to sizzling – and that’s just the standard mode! Flip the toggle and the pedal delivers the most insane and versatile oscillating noise-mode, including some very stable synth bass! The pedal will retail for $125.

In deep with FH(fx)’s Algal Bloom

February 28, 2009
YMMV Reviews>,

The Algal Bloom from pedal upstarts Fuzzhugger has been getting a lot of attention in the forums lately. As the pedal has landed in more hands it has gained a growing reputation for being a full-bodied, texture-filled fuzz that offers the right mix of aggression and smoothness. I have become quite the fuzz fan lately, tending to move more toward the tuneful cream machines than the circuit-bend glitch boxes… so the Algal Bloom was definitely on my list to try out. When Fuzzhugger offered to send us one to put through its paces, I jumped at at the chance. I was hoping to find a pedal that could move from a hairy wall of doom tone to a more discreet and hummy fuzz, but did I?

Fuzzhugger tips its 1134 Fuzz

January 22, 2009
Industry News>

The crew at Fuzzhugger FX has a new fuzz pedal available dubbed the eleven-thirty-four (1134). The box has three knob controls – Gain Trim, Texture and Level. The company bills the stomp as an angry, punishing fuzz, but one that does it with a grin on its face and its tongue in its cheek promising a multi-textured fuzz with many faces! With the fuzz control dimed, it’s a blistering, splattery synth fuzz explosion. As you back off it changes fuzzy textures and hits overdrive territory as well. The 1134 is available now at an introductory price of $109.
